Earlier this month, Livia Rosu and Abdul Khan represented the HomeGrid Forum at Broadband World Forum in London where they joined some of the leading vendors in network technologies, virtualization and connected services.
I recently wrote a guest blog for Embedded Computing discussing the benefits of industry certification programs for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). This is important when considering the fact that many legacy powerline technologies lack compatibility and offer almost no interoperability.
I recently spent “5 minutes” speaking with Embedded Computing Brand Director, Rich Nass, to discuss the proliferation of industry standards bodies promoting differing technologies and why HomeGrid Forum, with our primary function to push for G.hn, is any different.
It’s no secret that the growing demand for Over-The-Top (OTT) services, such as Netflix and YouTube, combined with increased congestion in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi spectrum, is driving the need for robust in-home networks that combine wired and wireless technologies for improved performance. With the increase of 4K video and 8K in markets such as Japan, OTT services are adding to the in-home bandwidth congestion as more users are choosing to opt out of traditional TV altogether and go “all IP”.
At CES Asia earlier this month, HomeGrid Forum showcased G.hn as the most versatile in-home technology, through demos of a wide range of applications over every wired medium in the home. By Donna Yasay, President, HomeGrid Forum
Earlier this month we exhibited at CES Asia for the first time in HomeGrid Forum’s history. The show was a great success and we were really impressed by the amount of traffic the show received on all three days – even the last day was full of delegates and felt very productive.

We have decided that this is the perfect time for us to join HomeGrid Forum and we are really looking forward to working with other members as we believe that G.hn is a revolutionary networking technology for global adoption.
At Broadband World Forum in London this week, HomeGrid Forum is hosting the first live demonstration of a new powerline test plan- TR-208
Finding the right test plan that compares ‘like for like’ set-ups with different products is hard to come by. Over the last few months we have seen many test plans being used to compare home networking technologies and the results vary considerably, depending very much on the choice of set-up.
A year ago we announced that mainland China and Taiwan had harmonized on G.hn as their ‘smart home’ wireline home network technology – a significant milestone in a massive market. Now G.hn is really proving its worth as the technology hits the retail market with listings on China’s most high profile eCommerce sites Alibaba and Taobao.
